How to add a the Pinterest Pin It button to an iPhone or iPad

Watch the iPhone Video here.

Hi All, so a few people including my wife have asked me to do a video on how to add the Pinterest Pin It button to the bookmarks of a iPhone or iPad.
The video above will show you step by step, however you need to java code to make it work and I have added it to mysite to make it easier to find.

Step 1. On your iPhone or iPad go into the Settings icon, then Safari and make sure that Open New Tabs in Background is on.
Make sure that Always Show Bookmarks Bar is turned on. Under privacy make sure Accept Cookies is set to From visited. And under the Security menu make sure JavaScript is set to on.

Step 2. Open Safari and browse to www.123myit.com. Press the Share button within Safari and then Bookmark. Delete out the title and then type Pin It.
Select the Bookmarks Bar and then save the Bookmark. Don’t worry about the address being set to www.123myit.com.
You should now see your Pin It Bookmark saved in the top of your Safari browser.

Step 3. Go into your Bookmarks, Bookmarks Bar then press Edit. Press the Right Arrow, then delete out the 123myit.com address and copy the code below into your Address area.

javascript:void((function(d){var%20e=d.createElement('script');e.setAttribute('type','text/javascript');e.setAttribute('charset','UTF-8');e.setAttribute('src','//assets.pinterest.com/js/pinmarklet.js?r='+Math.random()*99999999);d.body.appendChild(e)})(document));

Once you have done this you are ready to Pin any pages.

If you want to download the Pinterest App you can download it here.

Cheers
Matt

  1. Hi Matt,

First off thank you for setting up such a great clear video of what to do its very informative, but I’m a little stuck and wondering if you can help me…I have the iPhone 4S and I’m trying to do your first step in settings by having the favorites bar turned on bit in my settings I don’t have that option all the rest of the steps worked and I see the pin it button in my safari but when I’m on a page I can’t pin it there’s no option to be found….any suggestions….thanks a bunch

  2. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! I spent 2 very frustrating hours last night trying to do this and finally gave up. Then I found your site this morning followed the steps and it worked perfectly. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us.

    • Hi Sandra

    Cheers

  4. thank you so much for the clear explanation of how to get this bookmarked. It seemed to work, but I still don’t know how to use the bookmark to pin something. can you explain further….
    thank you.

  5. This still isn’t working for me on my iPad with ios7. I do all of the steps, but when I hit pin in just goes to Pinterest in safari and ask if it should open the Pinterest app, which is already open. At one point it looked like it was working and would show images to pin but them when I clicked on the image to pin it would open that web page. Ugh why doesn’t Pinterest have a better app for mobile devices?!?

  6. hello, ive been over your directions on adding the pinterest pin it button to my bookmark bar. on my ipad, under privacy block cookies it only offers always, never, from 3rd party and advertisers. please tell me which one to choose you said it would say from visted. i really would like the pin it button, im very dedicated to Pinterest. thank you very much.
